Utility Program Assistance  June 22, 2025

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, good morning! It’s a blessing to be with you all today.

I’m here to share some exciting news from our Christian Social Concern Committee partnering with the Bethel Economic Development Corporation, news that directly reflects our Christian call to care for one another, especially our most vulnerable.

The Bethel Economic Development webpage (www.betheledc.org) has been updated with vital information about utility assistance and cooling assistance programs. (https://betheledc.org/resources/) Many of our seniors, and even some families, might not be aware that these resources are available. The link can be shared with your families and we will update it with new information monthly. We also hope that those watching the service online will have access to these links.

The Word of God reminds us powerfully in Galatians 6:2 and 6:10:

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

These verses are a clear mandate for us to look out for our neighbors, to lighten their loads, and to do good whenever we can. Raising awareness of  these programs is a practical way for us to do just that.

Now, while we’re talking about supporting our church and community, let’s also remember the power of tithing – it’s a foundational principle that enables so much of the good work we do here at Bethel.

Beyond direct assistance, I also want to briefly touch on how we can all be better stewards of God’s creation. Just as our sewage cost reduction program helps mitigate rainwater on-site – a program that benefits everyone, regardless of income – reducing our energy and water usage at home can also contribute to reducing global warming. Every little bit helps both our planet and our pockets.

To help everyone access these vital utility and cooling assistance programs, Sister Carole Anne Drayton and myself will be available to help individuals fill out forms in the fellowship hall on two upcoming Wednesday afternoons June 25th 2pm-5pm & July 2nd 2pm-5pm. Please keep an eye on the bulletin for the exact dates and times. When you join us, please plan to bring your income verification documents and your utility account numbers to these drop-in appointments.   –   This is a wonderful opportunity for us to live out our faith and support our community. Let us continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus, carrying each other’s burdens and doing good to all.

God bless you.
