Using the land to assist our food pantry

From Pickle Buckets to Permanent Roots: The EDC Garden Project 🌿
For years, we’ve gathered on this lot for garden parties, coaxing life out of recycled white pickle buckets. It was resourceful, it was fun, and it kept our hands in the dirt—but it was only the beginning.
We are thrilled to announce the next phase of the EDC Garden Project, a transformation of our vacant lot into a fully accessible community hub.
Why Now?
While we move through the long-term process of developing affordable housing for our neighbors, we refuse to let this land sit idle. We believe that soil should be productive and that community spaces should never go to waste.
What’s New?
We are trading the buckets for high-quality ADA-accessible raised beds. This upgrade ensures that:
- All Ages & Abilities: Whether you’re a toddler or a senior, our garden is designed so everyone can plant, weed, and harvest comfortably.
- Purposeful Growth: We aren’t just growing for ourselves. A primary goal of this garden is to supplement the Clara Peoples Food Bank, providing fresh, local produce to those in our community who need it most.
- Community Connection: This remains a space for our famous garden parties—just with a little more room to grow!
“The best time to plant a tree (or a garden) was twenty years ago. The second best time is now—while we build the future of affordable housing together.”
